The restoration of the historic Pakalana Inn in downtown Hilo Hawaii by local Architect Neil Erickson began with the idea of creating ideal tenant spaces on the ground floor. By expanding “Hilo Guitars and Ukeleles” Neil created a comfortable retail area below the Inn while creating a special hideaway upstairs.
Koji’s, a landmark take-out lunch shop downstairs, had already been enticing everyone in the vicinity of the Pakalana Inn with savory aromas daily. Rounding out the eclectic atmosphere of Pakalana Inn is former flower child cum guitar virtuoso Ken, who’s the revered proprietor, guitar and ukelele walking encyclopedia and once upon a time pop sensation in the British Isles and beyond. Guitar and Ukulele lessons are available and you may even spot his Album cover displayed modestly if you peruse the gorgeous instruments.
